Acupuncture for Menopause

Women on hammock

In Chinese medicine, menopause is called the "Second Spring". It is the time for the blood to return to the heart and for the woman to be able to retain that blood and become wise. Well, we know that women can be wise far earlier than menopause but what a wonderful way to look at aging for women.

As we go through menopause we may experience a variety of physical and behavioral symptoms, including mood shifts. These shifts of emotion can be attributed to the changing levels of hormones during perimenopause and menopause - most notably a drop in estrogen which affects other hormones production such as dopamine and serotonin.

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are a wonderful addition at this time in our lives. It can help manage mood shifts, balance hormones, create a feeling of peace, as well as other lessen other menopausal symptoms such as insomnia, hot flashes, night sweats, foggy brain, and headaches.

Acupuncture is a wonderful tool to add to your western medicine or to use on its own if you choose not to take HRT (hormone replacement therapy) or you can't for health reasons.

So many of our patients find acupuncture so helpful for all types of menopausal symptoms.
