Equal Justice Initiative

When Clinic Director, Stephanie Gianarelli, recently said yes to helping fund a book club at local middle school Jason Lee in Tacoma, Washington, she didn't realize that the matching funds were coming from the Equal Justice Initiative

Here is an excerpt from the EJI website:

“The Equal Justice Initiative (EJI) is committed to ending mass incarceration and excessive punishment in the United States, to challenging racial and economic injustice, and to protecting basic human rights for the most vulnerable people in American society.”

Here was a 30-year-old powerhouse of a non-profit donating its funds to help a middle school teacher/librarian in Tacoma, Washington lift up, inspire and educate her students to learn about the world and their potential. We feel so fortunate to be able to join the Equal Justice Initiative in funding this worthy cause. Thank you, Dawn Baughman.

“My students rarely see themselves in printed material. With complete online learning, this collection will motivate students to engage in learning. I am starting a reading club tackling social justice topics and these books will be the focus of our discussions.”  - Mrs. Baughman
