Moxa Stick Uses and Tutorial

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is the burning of Chinese herbs over acupuncture points.

Also called moxa, moxibustion is a great way to continue your treatment that you are already getting with acupuncture or acupressure. Moxa is a mix of Chinese herbs formed into a roll or stick. The main herb is always artemisia vulgaris or mugwort. The goal of the treatment is to warm specific acupuncture points with moxa in order to bring heat and the healing energy of the specific herbs to the points and therefore the body. Doing moxa at home increases your “dosage” of Chinese medicine and is therefore a very useful tool to get better results than by using acupuncture or acupressure alone.

How to use moxa

Although, moxa is a fairly safe treatment, you can certainly burn yourself with moxa so please get trained by a provider before doing moxa yourself.

Moxa has many uses and there are many different schools of thought on when moxibustion is appropriate. If you have been prescribed moxa by your provider and shown when and where to apply it, then you can watch the video below as a refresher and to get you started!
