Basal Body Temperature

Basal Body Temperature (BBT) refers to the natural body temperature reached after resting which can be used as a tool to estimate the window in which women are most fertile in their cycle. This can be used to optimize fertility for planning or as a way to avoid getting pregnant.

As Chinese medicine providers, we are interested in your BBT for more than just know when you ovulated. Patterns in your temperature can show us what TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) patterns and diagnoses you might have. For example, if your temperature takes several days to rise after ovulation, this is often a sign of Kidney Yang Deficiency. Liver Qi Stagnation can cause your temperature to be erratic and give a sawtooth pattern.

Your BBT can give you, and us, important information that we can use to help you with your goal of creating or adding to your family.

Watch the video below on how to take your BBT.
