Nancy Sherman
Acupuncturist
Nancy loves to use her acupuncture skills to help people along a path of self-healing and wellness. Remedies that promote health from within and focus on the entire person are her passion. Often a state of good health can come from small simple changes that are natural and inherent in a person if we can provide guidance to the body, mind and spirit to move toward energetic balance and harmony. Listening to patients, helping them feel better and move toward a healthy life makes her job a joy.
Nancy graduated from the UW with a BA in East Asian Studies then enjoyed a 25-year career as a travel professional. She traveled to destinations all over the world, including China in 1978 with one of the earliest American tourist groups. She was a tour escort and passenger sales agent for an international airline, a cruise line and tour companies. Nancy then decided to go into medicine and returned to her lifelong interest in Chinese culture by studying the healing art of acupuncture, earning her Master of Acupuncture at Northwest Institute of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine in 2001. She has practiced in a wide variety of settings including integrated clinics, public health, community clinics and as a volunteer provider.
Nancy is an experienced practitioner who treats patients for conditions such as pain, headaches, insomnia, digestive disorders, fatigue, menstrual disorders, pregnancy care and adjunctive care for cancer patients. She has a special interest in mental health issues such as anxiety and depression and has worked as s staff provider and volunteer in public health clinics that treat people coping with mental health/emotional problems and addiction. Other continuing education and special training have included sound therapy, Qi gong, facial rejuvenation and acupuncture point injection therapy.
Nancy and her husband moved to Tacoma (her childhood home) 5 years ago from Seattle to enjoy a quieter, slower-paced lifestyle. She is very happy here, loves her new home and life with her musician husband (Brad), standard poodle (Fredi), and nearby family.
Outside of acupuncture practice, Nancy’s interests and activities include music, art, theatre, tennis, daily walks and day-hiking. She is an avid believer in the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga, has practiced for 25 years, studies regularly with Richard Schachtel (The Center for Yoga of Seattle) in the Iyengar tradition and is a Registered Yoga Trainer. She often will advise and teach poses to people who need help with alignment, relaxation and self-care for pain.
She believes her opportunities as an acupuncturist to listen to people, help them feel better, and have a healthier life with less pain is truly a gift she receives every day from her patients.
